What is an axial fan? Where is it used?

03 November 2020

Where are Axial Fans Used?

The fan system resembling an airplane propeller is preferred in areas where ventilation, exhaust gas, and smoke are dense, in dusty areas, in cooling towers, in facilities where combustible and explosive gases are intense, and in acidic environments. They are also used in workshops, foundries, industrial plants, and kitchens where high suction is required. They are used as smoke exhaust fans in parking areas. The motors of smoke exhaust fans that perform smoke exhaust duty are smoke motors that can withstand high temperatures for a certain period of time. Smoke motors are produced to withstand at least 3 hours at a temperature of 300 °C. In axial bladed fans, the flow rate and pressure are adjusted by adjusting the angle of the blades. The angle-adjustable vanes are made of bakelite and aluminum

What is the purpose of an Axial Fan?

Axial fans, are devices developed to provide rapid air transfer. Axial fans with circular cross-section are used as free discharge connected to air ducts. Axial bladed fans are also used in areas requiring transfer of explosive and flammable substances.

Advantages of Axial Fans Compared to Other Systems

The efficiency decrease due to power transmission mechanisms does not occur in this fan system because the impellers are directly coupled to the motor shaft. It is used for smoke extraction, ventilation, and cooling purposes.

Types of Axial Fans

One of the reasons why radial fans and axial fans are different from each other is that while the movement of the air created by the pressure difference in axial fans is axial, in radial fans, it is in the direction of centrifugal force. Axial fan types are divided into three different groups: fan blade axial fans, cylinder blade axial fans, and guide cylinder axial fans. Axial fan types are fans that are fast and easy to install. The fan blades are directly coupled to the motor shaft. They provide energy efficiency.

  1. Axial Fans with Blade Type Propellers: These types of fans are used in low-pressure, medium-pressure, and high-pressure general heating systems, ventilation systems, and air conditioning applications.
  2. Tube Blade Axial Fans: These types of fans are used in low-pressure and medium-pressure general heating systems, exhaust systems of drying and painting cabins.
  3. Guide Vane Axial Fans: This type of fans are used for low static pressure and large air flow rates.
